Having worked on and off with this creative nonfiction piece for over 23 years, it has finally found a home with Dismantle Magazine. This literary e-zine was launched in 2018 by two incredibly unique cultural studies PhDs/recovering academics. Their “favorite writing imagines how unjust systems can be dismantled, and most importantly, what comes after the dismantling.” I’d like to think that my story, Renovation, somehow fits within that wonderful thought.
